B2B lead form: how to get quality requests with 8–10 questions

Safarmurod AbduroziqovSafarmurod Abduroziqovreading: 4 min

Which questions to put in a B2B lead form, why it is worth it even if it raises lead cost, and how a 10-question form brought in a $0.16 request.

A B2B lead form is the questionnaire a person fills in after clicking your ad. A well-built form qualifies the lead right away: before you call, you already know who you are talking to.

Most people make the form short: name and phone. The lead comes cheap, but the operator spends all day answering the question "who are you?". We do the opposite.

In short:

  • A B2B form should have 8–10 questions.
  • Leads get 2–5 times more expensive, but they arrive as MQLs.
  • The questions should qualify, but not be hard.
  • In a niche with a strong pain point, the filter does not raise lead cost at all.

Why does a short form not work in B2B?

A short form is fine for B2C: nobody fills in a long questionnaire for a $20 product. In B2B the deal size is $10,000 and up. A person interested in a product like that will gladly answer 10 questions.

The main problem with a short form is the sales team's time. If half of 100 leads clicked by mistake, the operator makes 50 useless calls. That is lost money and lost motivation.

Which questions go into the form?

These are the questions we usually use:

  1. What industry is your business in?
  2. What is your job title?
  3. How many employees do you have, or what is your approximate turnover?
  4. What do you currently use to run this process?
  5. What is the main problem?
  6. When do you want to implement a solution?
  7. Who else is involved in the decision?
  8. What is the most convenient way to contact you?

Give answer options for the questions. The person should choose, not type. That way the form is filled in quickly and it is easy to sort the answers in the CRM.

How does the form affect lead cost?

In our experience, a form with 8–10 questions raises lead cost by 2 to 5 times. Yes, it costs more. But the cost of acquiring one customer (CAC) goes down in the end, because the sales team works only with quality leads.

Sometimes it goes the other way. For Loome, an ERP for installment sales, we set up a form with a 10-step filter in Meta Ads. A request cost from $0.16 and an MQL from $0.41, while we had expected $10–15. In a niche where the pain is strong, people fill in even a long form.

Where do most people go wrong?

The mistake is turning the form into an "exam": open questions, required long text, unclear terms. The person leaves at the third question.

The right way is for every question to serve one purpose: qualify the lead or prepare the call. If an answer gives you nothing, remove the question.

What happens after the form?

The form is only the top of the funnel. Call on the day the request arrives. The operator reads the answers in the form and starts the conversation with the problem: "You currently run this in Excel, right?"

The goal of the call is a free audit or a meeting. More on this: what MQL and SQL mean.

Conclusion

In short, in B2B the form is your first salesperson.

  1. Add 8–10 multiple-choice questions.
  2. Make every question serve qualification.
  3. Send the answers to the CRM automatically.
  4. Call on the day of the request.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should a B2B lead form have?

8–10. That is enough to qualify a person and does not tire out an interested customer. Give answer options for the questions.

Does a long form make leads more expensive?

Usually 2–5 times more expensive, but it lowers CAC. In the right niche it may not raise the cost at all: at Loome a request cost from $0.16.

Which is better: an instant form in Meta Ads or a website?

Test both in parallel. In the Parking24 case we ran two campaigns, one to the main website and one to a demo request page; the budget is moved based on the result.

How soon after the form should you call?

On the day the request arrives. A delayed lead goes cold and stops remembering you.

Is it a fit for you?

We'll analyze your funnel in 1 day.
