Since this morning two people gave the same feedback: "I saw your video, your podcast, great information." The most interesting part — one of them is our client about to start a new job. That reminded me of 2021.
150k views, but the wrong position
In 2021 I ran a tech blog on TikTok. My videos reached 150–200k views and circulated across channels. But back then they remembered me as "the phone guy." My work was marketing, yet because people knew me as a phone guy, I abandoned it all.
1.5k views, but the right position
Now even if my videos get 1.5k views, it feels better than those 150k. The reason is position. Now the right audience sees me as a marketer; the reach is small, but it lands on the right people.
This is the difference between position and popularity. Popularity brings many views, but to the wrong people; position lands on few, but the right people, and converts to sales.
Conclusion
In marketing the goal isn't many views but the right position with the right audience. 1.5k "right" views are worth more than 150k "empty" ones. Position sells, not reach.
