B2B SaaS marketing: from first sales to scale

How to sell B2B SaaS: MQL funnel, demo, video creatives and sales process. Results of the Parking24 case: month 1 — $150,000, 3 months — 15 sales.

B2B SaaS marketing is a system for selling business software: an offer for a clear pain, a funnel that delivers MQLs, a demo or audit, and a short sales process. When the deal size is above $10,000, the main sale happens in a meeting.

With Parking24, this system brought 3 sales in the very first month on $1,200 of ads, $150,000 in total. After 3 months, there were 15 B2B sales on $3,240 of ads, with an average deal size of $50,000.

In short:

  • Whoever reaches the market first wins.
  • MQL funnel: website or demo page + a form with filters.
  • It is not sold by phone: audit and meeting.
  • Video creative with the face of the product.

How do you get the first sales?

Parking24 was a product that was just entering the market. We did three things:

  1. Video creatives — special videos with the face of the product.
  2. MQL funnel — two campaigns: the main website and a demo request page.
  3. Sales process — nothing is sold on the call; the goal is a free audit or a meeting. At the meeting we give a price range, then a separate meeting with the commercial proposal (KP).

In the first month, deals with commercial proposals worth ~$1M appeared in the CRM.

Why does speed matter?

At that time we were also talking with another startup in the same niche. They spent most of their time thinking and adding new features. Parking24 moved fast and took the niche.

In SaaS, the perfect product does not win. The product that enters the market first does.

How do you scale?

After the first sales:

  • move the budget to the best campaigns and creatives;
  • expand the sales team;
  • add content (cases, success stories) to retargeting;
  • test new segments.

Scaling is not doing more of the same thing. It is knowing exactly what worked and strengthening it.

Where do most people go wrong?

The mistake is trying to sell SaaS like a B2C product with "try it for free", even for a corporate product with a large deal size. The customer signs up, doesn't understand it and leaves.

The right way is a demo and audit for a large deal size, and a tripwire or trial period for a small one. More: What is a tripwire.

Conclusion

In short, in B2B SaaS speed and the funnel decide.

  1. Make videos with the face of the product.
  2. Test the website and the demo page in parallel.
  3. Sell in a meeting, not by phone.
  4. Strengthen the channel that worked.
